Ridwell

Cohousing pays for a private collection company, Ridwell, to pick-up and appropriately process "hard-to-recycle" items with their recycling partners all over the Pacific Northwest. They come every other week to gather materials that Jaco assembles from Cohousers.

Ridwell is partnered with local businesses that know what to do with hard-to-recycle items (listed below) and eagerly show who these partners are. Visit their transparency page to see all the details. (Click on "Seattle.")

Click on highlighted items below for more specific info (such as Ridwell will and won't take).

Collected at the Common House:

Household batteries;     Unbroken LIght bulbs;     Cords, chargers & cartridges;
Portable devices;     Soft plastics

Collected on Jaco & Barbara's front (westside) porch:

• Styrofoam;    Corks;    “Threads” (clothing, textiles, footwear)

• Small plastic container caps;    Small metal bottle caps

• Orange and light green pill bottles;    Small plastic bread “tags”

Plus, each Ridwell pick-up features a special material not on their regular schedule and not necessarily listed above. Jaco will often advance advertise via email what this is and offer to collect those particular items as well.
